I feel like I am somehow incomplete while lacking this skill, so I have promised myself that I will tackle the mastery (okay, competence) of knitting and crocheting this year. I figure that I have time before next winter to whip up at least one of these adorable patterns for our little (soon to be) toddler -- so cute!

I know this is an older post, but I love knitting and thought your request deserved an answer! I started knitting a few years ago when my sister bought me a "teach yourself" kit meant for 8-10 year olds, and the simplicity of the directions made it perfect! I'm by no means an expert, but I've graduated from rectangles (scarves, shawls, washcloths, throws) to items that need more shaping, gaining confidence and inspiration by looking at library books (Mason Dixon knitting is great) and online. Just trying out new needle sizes and kinds of yarn is thrilling (especially in fall and winter when you feel like being cozy). Best advice: Don't be afraid to rip out your stitches when you make mistakes--it's a great way to learn! Happy knitting! --Amy
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'll check out the library, and look for that book! I'm still on my first scarf, and I even can't fathom how I can ever graduate to making sweaters, hats, mittens (! scary !)
